how this all began...

March 31, 2017

I thought, for my first blog post, I'd tell you a little story about who I am, and how this all began....

I'm Abra - an 80's baby, from the Pacific Northwest. I grew up in the small town of Poulsbo, Washington. I went to high school on Bainbridge Island, which is a little more known - an island just a ferry boat away from Seattle. Though photography had been in the family since day one - as my parents were always capturing everything on film - I didn't actually dive into it myself until high school. But then, once I did, I was hooked.

I spent hours upon hours in the dark room, loved watching my images develop on the page. Those hours continued into college, and eventually brought me to Brooks Institute of Photography, in Santa Barbara, CA. This is where I met my now husband (photographed with me below), and many solid friends who are still very active in my life today.

After school, I eventually moved down to Los Angeles, to actually pursue what it was I was going to do with this new degree.

I assisted many well known (and not-so-known) photographers, I worked on the prestigious Palm Springs Photo Festival for many years, I worked as a retoucher at Samy's Camera, I started my own business, though I really wasn't exactly sure WHAT I wanted to focus on... and then, after 6 months of traveling abroad, I landed a job with Bella Baby Photography and fell in love. The job put me in front of tons of newborns, tons of clients, tons of PEOPLE, and I gained a lot of experience both with my photography, and with newborn handling among other things.

I knew I had found my calling at this point, and I went to work on my own business while gaining more and more experience in the hospital. I enrolled myself into some business classes, some development classes, online courses -  you name it.

I redid my website more times than I'd like to admit, and gathered all my pregnant friends and started shooting!

So, fast forward just a little, and I'm here - ready to take my business to the next level, and watch my dream come true!

I truly believe having a baby is one of the most beautiful, most incredible events in our lives. It's one of the most organic, most impactful, most human times we ever experience. Even more so than your wedding day, having a baby touches at a deeper level - you learn a love you never have known before, you have a new reason for existence. And... as precious as that time is, it's gone just as quickly as it came. Being a highlight of your entire life, a time that gave you more purpose than you have ever felt before, can you imagine never being able to bring those feelings back?

I want to make it simple: natural and organic portraits with a timelessness that will bring you back to that moment with every glance, and one you'll never tire of looking at.

"never let it get away"

I offer wall portraits, ready to hang. Heirloom albums and image boxes to pass down through generations to come, and of course your digital files - for any personal projects and additional printing you'll ever want.

So, come join me on this journey! Let's do this together!
